Preston Hemphill, the white officer seen on body camera footage during Tire Nichols’ traffic stop, will not be charged in Nichols’ death, according to Hemphill’s attorney. Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy also announced Tuesday that he would not bring any criminal charges against Hemphill in connection with the case. Nichols, 29, died three days after he was beaten by officers during a January traffic stop in Memphis. MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A new prosecutor has joined the US Attorney’s Office to assist with the increasing criminal caseload in the Eastern Panhandle. United States Attorney William Ihlenfeld announced the addition of Daniel Salem to his Martinsburg office. Salem has been a prosecutor for nine years, first with Harford County (MD), then with the Baltimore City State’s Attorney, and finally with the Maryland Office of the Attorney General.
