DHS Released a Notice on the Addition of Entities to the UFLPA Entity List
On August 4, 2022, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), as the Chair of the Forced Labor Enforcement Task Force (FLETF), formally published the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) Entity List. The Entity list is a consolidated register of the four lists required to be developed and maintained pursuant to Section 2(d)(2)(B) of the UFLPA. DHS also released details on seeking changes to the UFLPA Entity List, including requests for removal from the list. Michigan Supreme Court Upholds UCC Statute of Frauds Rule Requiring Quantity Terms To Be In Writing
The Michigan Supreme Court issued an Opinion on July 11, 2023 in MSSC, Inc. v. Airboss Flexible Products Co., reversing a Court of Appeals opinion holding that blanket purchase orders were enforceable under the UCC Statute of Frauds. In short, the Michigan Supreme Court upheld the longstanding Statute of Frauds rule that contracts must contain a written quantity of terms to be binding, including its conclusions that:The parties’ blanket purchase order, terms and conditions, and other writings lacked a written quantity term. The term, “blanket,” does not constitute a quantity term within the meaning of the Statute of Frauds, overturning Great Northern Packaging, 154 Mich App 777; 399 NW 2d 408 (1986), “to the extent that it conflicts with the holding.”…
New Mexico State basketball players settle sexual assault lawsuit
Two former New Mexico State basketball players settled a hazing lawsuit filed in April, according to ESPN and the Associated Press. The lawsuit claimed three NMSU teammates ganged up on and sexually assaulted two players, Deuce Benjamin and Shak Odunewu. It also said Aggies’ coaches knew about the assaults and said or did nothing about them. Attorney Joleen Youngers said the settlement involves the players, coaches, and the New Mexico State board of regents. She did not disclose the settlement’s details. A school spokesman said they would soon be available in the state’s public records. New Mexico State “abruptly” canceled the rest of its season in February after Benjamin filed a report with campus police.…
